About God God is the Creator, Ruler, and Sustainer of the universe. There is one eternal God existing in three persons (the Trinity): Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each member of the Trinity is fully and equally God, divine in nature and attributes. God is Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent.

About The Son Jesus Christ is the only begotten eternal Son of God who became flesh to reveal God to all people, to fulfill prophecy, and to become the Savior of the lost world. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death, and His authority to give eternal life to all who will turn from their sins and receive Him by faith as Savior and Lord. He ascended to Heaven and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to Christians for the purpose of edifying the Church in accordance with the teachings of scripture. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.

About People God created people, male and female, in His image to become like Him in character. Although people have tremendous potential for good, they are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. All people sin and fall short of the glory of God. Sin separates people from God and necessitates His forgiveness through repentance. Even though we are sinners, God loves us. Because He loves, we are also called to love everyone and share God’s truth with compassion, kindness, respect, and dignity. God knows us because He made us, forming us in the womb and ordaining the span of our lives before we were born. We are precious to Him and valued by Him. As Christians, we hold human life sacred, knowing that each of us are wonderfully made by God from the moment of conception.

About Salvation Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross provides the sole basis for salvation, through the forgiveness of sins, which is the free gift of God’s grace to people. We can never make up for our sin by selfimprovement, personal merit or good works. Only through repentance, turning toward God and away from sin, and by trusting in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior can we be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his/her life through faith. We believe in the priesthood of the believer; that is, all humans, through Christ, have access to God and can go directly to God in prayer, confession, praise, worship and interpretation of the Holy Bible.

About the Church The universal Church is made up of all Believers in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Church is “one body in Christ.” Jesus Christ is the head of the Church and all Believers are united under and by His authority. Shearer Hills Baptist Church is an autonomous, local institution referred to as a church. It is independent and not answerable to any other ecclesiastical entity. It affirms the Baptist tradition of separation of church and state. SHBC is answerable to Jesus Christ as its head. It is governed by Holy Scripture and its collective conscience as expressed in the recorded decisions of its membership. SHBC exists to make Jesus Christ known to all people, to make disciples of all people, and to Glorify God in all things. SHBC is in unity with the Body of the Christ.

About Marriage Marriage is a biblical institution established by God as described by scripture. We believe that biblical marriage can only occur between one biological man and one biological woman. SHBC recognizes that marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in a covenant commitment. As such, marriage is a gift of God in which the union of husband and wife reflects the union of Christ and His Church. Accordingly, SHBC pastors and staff will not officiate in same-sex unions or same-sex marriages, nor shall SHBC property or resources be used for such purposes.
